Hurricane Ike September 9 2008 NASA
It has been a long hot summer {and we are not done with it yet}. I don't think it rained at all in June and it was in the 100''s a lot of the days and it hasn't rained much since...but we sure don't want another hurricane. We have our fingers crossed around here.

Now, a lot of Work has been done -
But - No work has been done on the Flagship.
No work to the pier (above) two guys were fishing on the San Luis Pass fishing pier - not sure how they got up there.
Tom went up into the beach condo to check it out - said it just needed a good cleaning.
A beach house that still needs repairs but with beautiful flowers around it.
My photo of the 81st Street fishing pier with the red truck still stuck on it.
And....the island is starting to get green again - look at these flowers. We went back to the beach and a lot of work has been done since we were there in March. Just about all the cement has be moved and loads of dirt have been placed at the condos grounds. So, it is even with the beach again. (I just hope we don't have even a small storm that causes the water to come up high - it could wash away the new dirt.) The road is done and it is nice and the beach access road next to our place is done. Bright Light is open and the beaches are great. Tom and Taylor went fishing with a guide in the Bay and he said it was nice - no big debris ( like a couch or a fridge.) They are working on the electricity and the water system soon. Maybe next summer we will be staying here again.

Remains of the Galveston Fishing pier
This was on the news because some "stupid" people stayed here during the storm and had to be rescued the next day. They are lucky they are a live.

Flood - 4-28-09 - Houston- update

This is Lakeside Country Club in west Houston after the rain we had on 4/28/09. I have seen a lot of houses with the carpet pulled out and piled in front of the houses. So quite a few houses did get water inside of them around here. What Allison and Ike didn't mess up - this big rain storm got. You never know what will happen in Houston. We have had the end of last summer, a tropical storm, hurricane Ike, snow, hail, and now a torrential down pour. We hope this swine flu mess doesn't have the kids missing school again.

Six Months Later....It doesn't look Good
This is a house in Surfside beach near the jetties:
The pile of cement they have cleaned up:
Our unit - the last one -see how all the grounds are washed away?
This is the {was} the road to be the beach that was by our condo. Two houses by here are gone.
This is the only part of the grass and ground that is left. (by the pool) :
This is by the pool:
This is a unit on the last row on the east side:
This is where the laundry building was:
Another view of our unit:
The driveway/parking lot:
I don't see how these will be open in September - it still looks awful. The web site says they completed the cement removal- but there still is a lot of cracked cement. I didn't see any big trucks or cranes to do more work. I wonder what is going on?

Update from Feb 1st on the Peregrine Condos
"During the past month, we continue to make good progress in spite of obstacles along the way. The Windstorm and Flood adjusters are finishing their damage estimates reports, and will be sending these reports shortly to their State/National offices for approval. We continue to work with the State and County officials to work through the governmental processes of obtaining the required approvals needed to begin repairs to the bulkhead and the sewer system replacement. The sewer system is currently in the design phase and will require State and County approvals prior to the start of construction. The County is finalizing bids for the temporary beach road repairs." (This is from their website.)
